The ITLC Board is charged with driving the overall IU IT leadership community in collaborative and open ways. The board maintains any public-facing platforms such as the website or mailing lists, plans events, communicates as needed to the community and to other constituents, manages action teams, leads new initiatives under the purview of the ITLC, and solicits feedback to help best address community interests and needs.

Example initiatives under the purview of the board:

• Professional development through mentors programs, workshops, speaker series, and discussion groups. 
• IT Leaders Bootcamp 
• Event Management such as the Statewide IT Conference collaboration and the MOR Conference coordination. 
• Website communications to community

Major decisions will be finalized by consensus of board members during a meeting or over electronic communications.

The ITLC Board consists of anywhere from 7 to 13 members, who in turn are expected to: 

• Actively engage in the larger IU IT community 
• Attend board-sponsored events 
• Lead action teams to fulfill board-sponsored initiatives and projects 
• Fulfill other duties, as assigned Board members will serve a preferred term of no more than 3 years.

Board member replacements will happen every year with the following schedule: 

• Conversations with approved replacements, as well as discussions on which board members may step aside, occur in May. If possible, outgoing board members are encouraged to facilitate the transition process with incoming board members on a one-on-one basis. 
• Potential replacements (roughly 1/3 of the board) are presented to the board in May and June. The current board will approve or disapprove each candidate. 
• The new board members are installed on July 1st, with outgoing board members concurrently excused.

Composition of the board should also encourage:

• All members of the community – including former and incoming board members – to remain highly engaged in the IU IT leadership. This is critical to the continued success of the community. 
• The inclusion of membership from within and outside UITS, and preferably a mix of members from IUB, IUPUI and the regional campuses.

Specific Board Roles

All members of the board are encouraged to remain actively engaged within the larger IU IT leadership community. In addition, there are specific board roles, as defined below: 

• Chair: The Chair directs and organizes the board. This role will automatically change every July 1st at the same time the board transitions new members. A casual recommendation or self-nomination process is encouraged, as natural leadership within the board will be evident throughout the year.
• Publicist: The publicist will see to the management of the website, mailing list, and newsletter updates. Note: The Chair will have the same level of access to these communication outlets. 
• UITS Liaison: The board will maintain a UITS Liaison to work with senior IT leadership and others across the IU system. 
• Action Team Chair/Advisor: Each board member is encouraged to take on the chair seat or an advisory role in every ITLC action team. This encourages active engagement in all board projects, and promotes guidance on these specific teams/initiatives from the larger board.

The above roles may be filled by the same person for multiple years/terms as long as the board is comfortable with the arrangement and that the duties are being satisfactorily fulfilled.
