Join us to hear more about Kelley’s research and how we can facilitate celebrations that improve the health and mental well-being of ourselves and our colleagues.
Several years of research by Kelley Gullo Wight and her colleagues has found that social gatherings with food and drink to celebrate positive life moments increase people’s perceived social support. Those who have perceived social support identify as a part of a social group from which they feel they can rely on for support during times of need, and having perceived social support is strongly associated with improved physical and mental health. This positive connection can be accomplished with virtual gatherings just as it can with in-person gatherings.
In an environment where many IT professionals are working remotely, these events can play a part in lessening feelings of isolation and depression.
