Rob Lowden, MS, joined the Indiana University School of Medicine in January 2019 as its inaugural chief information officer. He also serves as an executive associate dean and member of the executive leadership team that ensures that the school fulfills its mission to improve health care through excellence in medical education, research, and clinical care.
In his role as CIO, Lowden is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive information technology strategy for the largest medical school in the United States, with 11,000 faculty, staff, and learners spread across nine campuses.
Prior to joining the IU School of Medicine, he served as IU’s associate vice president of enterprise systems. He has held multiple IT roles at IU dating back to 1998. In addition, Lowden served as interim executive director of Unizin, a membership-based consortium of large research institutions whose mission is to improve the learner experiences with digital teaching and learning resources.
Lowden holds a Master of Science in technology and a Bachelor of Science in computer technology, both from Purdue University.
